HOW TO OVERCOME 'SLEEP DEBT' FOR HEALTHIER SKIN

We all know how important a good night’s sleep is for overall health and wellbeing, but that doesn’t mean we always get the allotted 8 hours of beauty rest that we need. When we get enough rest, our body thanks us by giving us plump, fresh skin, healthy hair and brighter eyes and even helps us think and feel better. When we DON’T get enough rest however, our bodies are quick to slow us down, making us more susceptible to fatigue and illness…

Recently we came across the idea of ‘sleep debt’. A type of debt that must be caught up on in order to maintain your mind and body’s functionality and health. Sleep debt is essentially cumulative sleep deprivation, meaning if you regularly miss out on the recommended daily 8 hours of sleep, you start to accumulate a sleep debt. The more sleep you miss, and the more sleep you owe, the bigger your sleep debt becomes, resulting in your skin, body and overall health getting slowly worse.

If you have been suffering from puffy eyes, dull skin, foggy thoughts, and depleted immune system, you are likely in the clutches of sleep debt.

Why is sleep debt important? Not only is enough rest good for how well your insides feel, but significantly improves the appearance of your skin, hair and nails, naturally. One of the easiest ways to repay your sleep debt, is of course sleeping. But, putting your alarm on and hitting the land of sleep simply isn’t an option for the modern person in the 21st century.

Here are some other ways you can ensure you maintain healthier skin and better sleep patterns:

  1. Make your bedroom a refuge from the stresses of life. Reserve your room solely for sleep and other restful activities like mediation or reading, and avoid all screens at least an hour before bed.
  2. Indulge in some self-care or pampering regularly to help reduce stress. Something as simple as applying a face oil of heavy duty moisturiser as a routine before bed can calm your sense. Try the Nourishing Facial Oil from our range, including 12 botanical oils.
  3. Limit your caffeine intake. Opt for relaxing herbal and organic teas after midday in place of your indulgent coffee pre-bed time. Our white hibiscus and cinnamon tea, Eternitea is the perfect blend to relax your body and works to support anti-ageing defenses.
  4. Inject super-food blends into your daily diet for added boost of essential ingredients. The Bestow Beauty range of super-foods are edible cosmetics designed to bestow health and wellbeing from inner health to outer beauty.
