A YOUNG DOCTOR’S DREAM

This Christmas, we are giving our clinics a gift with a difference, the gift of making a difference!

We have donated our Christmas gift budget to a Bestow Sisterhood Special Project. We are supporting a second year Cambodian medical student, Nav Sreynak, who is struggling to pay her fees. Sreynak’s education has been sponsored through the Cambodia Charitable Trust since she was a young girl and it’s inspiring to see her doing so well at university. Together, we are truly giving her the gift of a brighter future and the opportunity to fulfil her purpose and potential.

Nav Sreynak’s Story

The odds were stacked against Sreynak from birth. Born into a poor family in rural Cambodia, the chances of her completing even a primary school education were slim to none. In light of this, the fact that she is about to begin her second year as a university medical student is truly remarkable.

The turning point in Sreynak’s life occurred when she was sponsored through the Cambodia Charitable Trust (CCT) as a young girl. She responded to this opportunity by working hard at school and pursuing her dream of becoming a doctor. She loves medicine and this career will empower her to support herself and her family and to help many people.

Sreynak lives in Phnom Penh with her sister, who is also sponsored by the CCT and is studying to be an accountant. She works hard juggling household chores, studying for her medical school exams and learning English and French. Her basic living costs are covered by a sponsor from New Zealand through the CCT, but the medical student fees of $2300 per year are totally beyond her, or her family’s, ability to pay.

It is our privilege this Christmas, as a Bestow Sisterhood, to make a significant contribution towards Sreynek’s second year of medical school fees so she can continue along this life-changing path to a brighter future.

It’s bright, determined young women, like Sreynak, who are Cambodia’s hope for the future. Changing the life of one girl has a transformative effect that ripples out to her family and community and helps to turn the tide against systemic poverty.

We will tell Sreynek that there is a sisterhood of Australian and New Zealand women who are cheering her on her way!

Thank you for being part of being part of such a generous and big-hearted sisterhood.

Much love,

Janine x
